INTRODUCTION:
A. Romans 6:23…”A free gift”.
B. The cost:

  1. It cost the Father. John 3:16.
  2. It cost the Son. Romans 5:8.
  3. It cost the Holy Spirit.
  4. It cost the early Christians.
  5. It cost our Christian parents.
  6. It costs every member.

C. When He saved us we received all there is of Him.
D. When we walk the Christian life, we are to give Him all there is of us
Illus. Song – I surrender all.
E. The Lord had a dream…and it cost Him everything.
F. When we accept His salvation..we accept His dream… and the cost of seeing that dream come true! Colossians 1:24.

G. Jesus calls us to salvation and to maturity. Luke 6:12-49.

  1. Jesus called the disciples. 6:13.
  2. Jesus taught them difficult things. 6:25ff.
  3. In this passage He tells us how to be a real disciple.
  4. 6:40…”A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will
  5. be like his teacher”.

I. JESUS CALLS US TO DISCIPLESHIP.

  1. The dividing issue. Luke 6:46.
  2. The way we illustrate in our lives that He is our Lord. 6:47.
    a. Everyone who comes to me. 6:47.
    b. Everyone who hears my words. 6:47.
    c. Everyone who acts upon my words. 6:47.
    d. Becomes like our teacher.

II. JESUS COMMANDS US TO LISTEN TO HIS WORDS.

  1. We will love our enemies. 6:27.
  2. We will bless those who curse us. 6:28.
  3. We will turn the other cheek. 6:29.
  4. We will give our coat to those who ask. 6:30.
  5. We will give to anyone who asks us. 6:30.
  6. We will treat others as we want to be treated. 6:31.
  7. We will love even those who hate us. 6:31, 35.
  8. We will be merciful just like/same way as our Father. 6:36.
  9. We will not judge others. 6:37.
  10. We will not condemn others 6:37.
  11. We will forgive those who wrong us. 6:37.

III. WE WILL BE REAL/GENUINE…NOT INSINCERE, COUNTERFEIT.

  1. Not like the blind leading the blind. 6:39.
  2. We will be trained to act like our teacher. 6:40.
  3. We will take the plank from our own eye before we try to help others. 6:41.
  4. We will produce good fruit. 6:45.
  5. We will have a good heart. 6:45.

IV. WE WILL BE TESTED.

  1. We will not just call Him Lord…He will be Lord…by the fact that we do what He says. 6:46.
  2. We will come to HIM!
  3. We will have our life built on the Rock. 6:47-49.
    a. We will dig down to bed rock.
    b. We will lay a proper foundation.
    c. We will build the house.
    d. We will be able to endure the storm.
  4. Others will fail because:
    a. They built their house on the sand… poor foundation).
    b. The storm will destroy their house.

CONCLUSION:

A. The test is coming!
